My name is Keary, and I am the Youth Collection Specialist Librarian at the Mount Prospect Public Library in Mount Prospect, IL in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. My library is midsized and does have one branch. The Youth Department serves ages birth through age eleven and offers a variety of programs for those ages.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2006 with M.A. in Library and Information Studies. While there, I was part of Dewey et al. for my Baby, the winners of the first ALA National Book Cart Drill Team Championships. I am a member of the American Library Association, as well as ALSC, one of its divisions. I am also a member of the Illinois Library Association.
A Co-worker and I presented “Mad About Science: creating science programs @ your library” at the Illinois Library Association Conference in 2012.
I’ve dabbled in blogging before but think there is a real need to offer more support for librarians interested in promoting STEM in the library. I’ve found great support from the library community for the science programs I have presented and hope to pay it forward.
